| Taina Lehtimaki |
(taina@cs.may.ie) |
| Taina is a Master's student of Cognitive Technology from the
Laboratory of
Computational Engineering, Helsinki University of Technology |
| research interests: |
Children's cognitive development, language skills, eye-movements,
perception, intelligent toys, emotions, and multimedia. Currently working on the CompARe project which involves developing a computer assisted reading support
system for children using
the EyeLink II eye-tracking system.

| Alan Maguire |
(alan_e_maguire@hotmail.com) |
|
| research interests: |
visual perception, the binding problem (relationship between temporal synchrony and perceptual binding),
empirical dynamical modeling of system-level neural activity, dynamical disease approach to neural disorders.

-
| Ioana Marian |
(ioana.marian@ucd.ie) |
| research interests: |
computational neuroscience, spiking neurons simulation, visuomotor
mapping,
learning by imitation, connectionist modeling of language
acquisition.
|
| Masters research: |
extended SNNS (Stuttgart
Neural Network Simulator) to support simulations with spiking neurons.
Within this computational framework Ioana proposed a model of visuomotor
mapping based on motor babbling and a self-organising model of motor cortex.
Her current work is on developing the computational means for
studying the emergence of planning, intentionality and language, based on
imitation and re-use of sensori-motor programs. `Her completed MSc thesis can be
download from here.

-
| Nikolinka (Nenova) Collier |
(nikolinka.nenova@ucd.ie) |
| research interests: |
discourse modelling with specific interest in annotation of large corpora
and utterance modeling |
| current research: |
To investigate (1) the correlation between the sound structure
and the functional role of discourse particles;
(2) the relation between the function and the utterance position of discourse
particles, particularly those that occur at utterance boundaries (in order to
uncover any interdependencies between the occurrence of discourse particles and dialogue moves).
